What's new in HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX?

The new version HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX constitutes a great step in the development of this product. The software uses latest web technologies like AJAX and DHTML.
The result is a Google Maps like output with dynamic zoom and pan without a reload of the whole page.

The new features

Full screen maps
HTML ImageMapper AJAX for the first time offers full screen maps so that questions about embedding the HTML ImageMapper application into the layout of a web site do not arise anymore. For everybody who prefers smaller maps it is still possible to enter a specific pixel size and position the map freely on the website.

Dynamic zoom
The author is able to set individual zoom levels most suitable for the objects in the map. The online visitor uses the mouse wheel or a slider for the dynamic zoom in the browser.

Free positioning of map elements

HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX offers several map elements that lie on top of the map. These can be freely repositioned, minimized and maximized, displayed and hidden. So the online user has control over the map section he wants to keep free of disturbing elements.
According to the settings of the author the following map elements are available:

  • Overview map
  • Legend
  • Professional search function
  • Lists
  • Dashboard

Search function
The professional search function of HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX enables the search over all attribute data. The user selects a field of the attribute table and the search parameter from the pulldown menu. A query can be narrowed down through several queries performend in a row.
A simple search window is embedded at the bottom of each ImageMapper project in the browser.

Customizable overview map
HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX for the first time allows a customizing of the overview map. Often this navigation help looks crowded from the many layers displayed in it.
The author can now make his own choince which layers he wants to be displayed in the overview map and view the result with the preview button.
The size of this map can be selected as well.

Lists

HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX allows the preparation of lists, created from columns of the attribute table. E.g. create a list by the name of all cities included in the map.
Click on a list element to change the map section and zoom level to the best advantage of the chosen object.

Extended print option

The print feature is available from three sites:

  • Print attributes
  • Print dashboard
  • Print search result list

Integration of GPS PhotoMapper
With HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX the ArcGIS extensions HTML ImageMapper and GPS PhotoMapper have become compatible. Users who licensed both software versions can now use HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX to export photo layers. A mouse click on the photo location displays the according photo in the browser.

FTP upload

Upload your HTML ImageMapper projects over night using the FTP upload function.
What had to be done step by step in the past is now a matter of only one click.

Patch update

The time consuming and annoying reinstallation that used to come with the release of a new build of HTML ImageMapper belongs to the past. You will be notified as soon as a new build is available online. All you need to do is start the automatic patch and HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX will update itself. No deinstallation and reinstallation necessary.

Extended zoom to objects

HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX offers three possibilities to zoom to an object:

  • Select an element from a list
  • Select an element from the search result list
  • Select an element from the dashboard

Automatic entry into the map gallery
The map gallery is a collection of HTML ImageMapper projects from all over the world that exists for several years now. A manual entry on the alta4 web site used to be necessary. Now all relevant information can be entered in the HTML ImageMapper 10 - AJAX authoring system and the project will be posted in the gallery as soon as the project goes online.

Automatic display of the copyright information from the ArcGIS metadata
Many data sets can only be published with copyright information. This can be stored in the metadata in ArcCatalog. HTML ImageMapper automatically recognizes copyright information and displays it in the browser.
