easy and fun to use ...
Fodysseus is very easy to use: Drag&Drop your files from your file browser to Fodysseus. Accept the default settings. Chose the output folder. The softeare extracts the coordinates out of the images and writes them to a nice KML file which will open automatically in Google Earth.
EXIF Metadata in JPEG files ...
Almost all modern digicams save hidden informations with the beside the pictures themselves. These are camera settings, camera vendor, exposure time, date, etc. The common standard to save this hidden information is called "exchangeable image file format" (EXIF) and was developed by the "Japan Electronic and Information Technology Industries Association" (JEITA) for JPEG.
EXIF provides the possibility to save GPS coordinates as well as the altitude to a picture. And Fodysseus RE is able to read these GPS entries from the hidden header. When producing a KML file for Google Earth™ Fodysseus takes those coordinates to assign the pictures to the right location on the globe. A pin shows the user that there is a picture at certain locations and a click on the icon opens the photo.
