Ricoh Caplio 500SE as an inventory tool

Barcode Scanner

The barcode scanner of the Caplio 500SE opens whole new possibilities and in connection with data-Imaging a new branch.

Barcode Scanner SE-4
The barcode scanner SE-4, available since 2008 has been developed for the Caplio 500SE and is screwed on to the upper side of the camera.
The SE-4 is a professional class-2 laser scanner, that even works under difficult lighting conditions and is able to read all popular 1D-barcodes.

The scanned barcode is being saved in the memo part of the picture. That way the data and the pictures are connected. Up to four different barcodes can be saved per picture.

The SE-4 convinces by easy handling and a fast scanning process. The scanner supports a wide bandwith of barcodes.
Supported barcodes: Code 39, Code 128, EAN 128, Interleaved 2of5, ITF-14, JAN13, JAN8, UPC-A, UPC-E.

High adaptability through the combination of modern technologies

The digital camera RICOH 500SE is extremely adaptable and offers the best technical setup for various tasks.

Object-Photography with barcode-recognition and optimized localization:
Your focus is on barcode scanning? A major bandwidth of supported barcodes, easy handling and fast scanning are important to you? Nevertheless you want to use the possibility of position fixing.
In that case alta4 recommends the use of the RICOH 500SE with the barcode scanner SE-4 and an external GPS. The latter communicates with the camera using the bluetooth connection.

GPS-Photos with optional barcode-recognition:
Most important to you is taking a picture with its coordinates. Occasionally you want to be able to scan barcodes.
If that is the case alta4 recommends the use of the RICOH 500SE with the GPS-Receptor SE-1. For the barcode detection you can use the integrated TTL-Function (through the lens). That way the barcode is scanned through the lens of the camera. Just as with the SE-4 the barcode is saved in the memo-part of a picture. Up to four different barcodes can be registered for each picture.
Depending on the quality of the barcode the scanning process might take longer. The Caplio 500SE allows you to set the scanning time between 3 and 30 seconds.
Supported barcodes: JAN13, JAN8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code39, Code 128, ITF-14.

Practical Use

With the barcode scanning the RICOH Caplio 500SE connects two fields of activity and becomes the perfect tool for the inventory of objects.
The Caplio 500SE performs three tasks in one:

  • Taking a high resolution picture
  • Registering the barcode of an object
  • Taking up the coordinates of the position

Thanks to the barcode scanner the Caplio 500SE can be a useful tool in the logistics sector.
Did the goods leave the transport company imaculately? Was the cargo trailer loaded correctly? A logistic company has to document each step to be able to proof the completeness of a freight or the correct loading. The Caplio 500SE is a handy tool to fulfill this requirement.
